What is Summit Chorale?

Summit Chorale is:

  • T R A D I T I O N

    • an important element in New Jersey's musical environment
    • a contributor to community cultural life, with outreach programs free to the public
    • a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, founded in 1909
  • I N N O V A T I O N
    • a leader in adventurous programming, premiering and commissioning works by New Jersey composers, presenting first-time local performances of other masterpieces, and performing lesser-known works by great composers of the past (some of whom are also lesser-known themselves)
  • E X C E L L E N C E
    • one of New Jersey's premiere choruses, offering exciting performances of fine choral music from medieval times to today
    • a select ensemble of talented volunteer singers
    • a flexible vocal instrument, varying from 15 to 100 voices depending on the program
    • a guest chorus with leading orchestras and other organizations in the region

Summit Chorale also has a rich heritage and long history of music-making. We also have an important mission to guide all of the organization's goals. These goals are achieved entirely through the voluntary efforts of our members.

Summit Chorale members:

  • are drawn from 36 communities in Union, Essex, Morris, Middlesex, Somerset and Warren Counties in New Jersey, and also from Pennsylvania and New York
  • range in age from the twenties to seniors
  • come from all walks of life, many with extensive musical training or experience
  • pay annual dues and purchase their own scores
  • collectively spend over 10,000 hours each year in rehearsals and concerts
  • contribute over 2,500 hours annually in publicity and fundraising efforts, ticket sales and concert staging
  • are active in their own communities
  • elect their own Executive Board to administer the organization
