Some of the world's most beautiful choral music will be performed when Summit Chorale presents "Finally Heard: The Voice of Poland," including mesmerizing chant and magnificent motets from medieval times to the present. A Chopin piano showpiece will be performed by Assistant Conductor and accomplished pianist Sándor Szabó. Drew University Chorale will join Summit Chorale to form a chorus 100 voices strong in performing Górecki's soul-stirring Miserere.
The concert is on Saturday, May 18th at 8pm at the United Methodist Church in Madison on Route 124. Tickets are $16.00, $11.00 for seniors and students in advance, and $18.00 and $13.00 at the door. For tickets and information call (973) 762-8486 or see www.summitchorale.org.
Because of its turbulent history, Poland and its culture have remained somewhat isolated from the rest of the world until recently. Many of the works performed have rarely been heard in the United States and most are unrecorded. The raising of the Iron Curtain and the growth of the Internet have allowed Music Director and Conductor Garyth Nair to research and gather this glorious music.
Now enjoying its 93rd year, Summit Chorale is New Jersey's oldest active choral group and is Chorus in Residence at Drew University. Both Summit Chorale and the Drew University Chorale are conducted by Garyth Nair, Associate Professor of Music at Drew University and author of groundbreaking books on the human voice.
Funding for this concert has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts through a grant administered by the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. Additional funding has been provided by the Frank and Lydia Bergen Foundation.
