Candidate Information
Updated for 2007
Each year, Summit Chorale
is pleased to sponsor a one-time, $500.00 scholarship to support the study of music at the college level in the memory of long-time member Christine Z. Muller. In addition, the winner will perform a solo of their choice at the May 19, 2007 Summit Chorale concert. To qualify, a candidate must be:
- A graduating northern New Jersey high school senior this spring
- Consistently active in the high school's choral music program
- An applicant as a music major in an accredited college or university for the coming academic year. If acceptance notification has been received and a commitment to attend has been made, that is a plus.
The scholarship application must include:
- The completed application form (see below).
- A letter of recommendation from either the choral director or private voice teacher. Additional recommendations are also welcome.
- A CD (or audiotape) of no more than 10 minutes duration, clearly marked with the applicant's name, school, and selections included. Sing two contrasting art songs or operatic arias. (No pop, rock, or Broadway songs will be acceptable.) These will generally be accompanied. No application will be considered without a recording. If the candidate would like to have his/her recording returned, a self-addressed, postage paid envelope must be included with the application.
The scholarship application may also include one other supporting sample of the candidate's work (e.g., a performance of one movement of an instrumental sonata or other brief piece (on the same CD) or a personally composed score, etc.)
Applicants should mail completed packages (only) to arrive no later than April 21, 2007 to:
Summit Chorale, Inc.
Attn: Muller Scholarships
P.O. Box 265 Summit, NJ 07902-0265 (USA)
Please direct any questions to scholarships@summitchorale.org.
Please encourage any qualified candidate to apply and share this information with appropriate members of your school's music faculty and guidance department.
Applications will be judged primarily on artistic potential with a bias towards concentration on the vocal arts. The Scholarship Committee announces the award around May 5th; application packages received after April 21, 2007 will not be considered.
