On becoming a member, you will be given detailed information of membership. However, here are some highlights you might like to know about being a member of Summit Chorale.
- REHEARSALS
- When: Our ongoing and exciting rehearsals are held each Tuesday from September through May, except over the December/New Years Holidays.
- Where: Rehearsals are held at the United Methodist Church of New Providence: 1441 Springfield Avenue. More info about this location.
- Time: Rehearsals start promptly at 7:30 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m. A calendar of rehearsals, dress rehearsals and concerts is provided to each member.
- Other rehearsals: Prior to each concert, we hold an enjoyable, rewarding Saturday "all-dayer" rehearsal. This day helps us move "over the top" with securing expertise in our repertoire. It is a fun day of camaraderie, music making and polishing. It leaves members with a sense of accomplishment and satistfaction with their music. Members say this "all-dayer" helps them become expert in the music for the imminent concert. It is also a good opportunity to socialize a bit more and get to know each other better.
- Dress rehearsals: While some organizations can only afford one dress rehearsal, the luxury of TWO dress rehearsals is provided for our members to insure a most successful concert. They are usually held Wednesday and Thursday prior to the concert weekend, but that is dependent on hall space/rental and availabilities. Dress rehearsals are mandatory to sing the performance. They are so important that we are sure you wouldn't want to miss them anyway!
- OTHER MEMBERSHIP ITEMS
- Attendance: Each member is expected at all rehearsals, but emergencies do arise. Members are granted a certain number of absences per preparation period for such emergencies. More information about this will be provided after your successful audition.
- Dues: Dues are approximately $18 a month, less than the equivalent of several lattes at Starbucks! And of course, this includes your music/scores, the excellent training you will get and other fun perks of membership!
- Concert Attire: Men in the Chorale wear tuxedos. Women wear floor-length all black (details supplied), along with a custom-dyed scarf available through the Chorale.
- Volunteerism is important to keep our chorus alive and well. It takes a lot to keep an important organization like ours running smoothly for our community. Beyond singing, members volunteer for certain duties, accomplish small tasks, sell tickets, and donate their career expertise. Others sometimes just write a check when they feel generous above and beyond their dues. Our program lists many singing members as donors who voluntarily support the ensemble because they feel strongly about Summit Chorale. All of our members support the ongoing music making in a variety of ways.
- Home study: Some members find the rehearsals enough preparation to learn their music while others need some outside study. Whatever works for a member to learn his/her music to a most proficient level is what is expected. Extra help can be provided if you need it. Just ask the Membership Chair
or the Music Director
at any time.
