Members of all voice categories are encouraged to audition for Summit Chorale: Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses.
Auditions are usually scheduled in August or September for the start of the season, and on dates shortly following most concert performances for membership in the subsequent concert preparation.
Preparation:
Prepare a slow song (melody) of your choice that is in and reflects your range: soprano, alto, tenor or bass. Be sure it is a solo melody - do not use a part from a choral piece. Memorization of your song is your choice and does not affect the audition outcome. Bring a clear and readable copy of the sheet music (that firmly stands up on a piano without falling) for the accompanist (provided) and also a copy for yourself. Singing a prepared song is the easiest and quickest way for assessment of your vocal ability by the Music Director
.
It is advantageous for you to warm up your voice prior to arrival. Don't let your audition be the first time you have sung that day.
Application form:
Download the 2007-08 season Membership Application in Acrobat/PDF format.
You will be asked to fill out an application form prior to your singing audition, so arrive early enough to fill out a form that will take approximately 10-12 minutes to complete. Give yourself enough time to find your way, park your car, walk to the site, fill out your form and relax a bit before you sing. On the form you will be asked about your musical background, music teachers, choral experience and other pertinent information and history. Other skill assessments may take place by the director at your audition depending on your experience and background.
Privacy and notification:
Your audition is private in nature. Only the Music Director and an accompanist (and possibly the Membership Chair
) will be at the audition. At times, auditionees are told "on the spot" if they are accepted into Summit Chorale. Other times, they will be notified at a later date. This is mostly due to a need to balance the chorus by section and the number of auditionees.
The singing audition and skills assessment usually lasts anywhere from 8 to 12 minutes. The better prepared you are, the shorter the audition.
Thank you for your interest in Summit Chorale. Hope to see you at auditions!
